A bit about what I do Empty
PostSubject: A bit about what I do   A bit about what I do EmptyTue Feb 23 2010, 06:49

Hi, I just wanted to share a bit about what I do with everyone.

I am a dislocated worker (fancy way of saying laid-off/fired) as of July 3, 2009 due to downsizing, etc. I used to work for an asphalt company operating heavy equipment. Awesome experience, and you definitely earn every penny of your paycheck of blood and sweat, lol.

I worked in the recycle division; we crushed concrete and asphalt into a reusable aggregate for various applications.

Anyway, being 27 years old now, I knew I needed to do something to better myself, so I applied to Penn State University about a year-and-a-half ago, and lo and behold, received my letter of acceptance!

I've been writing sports articles online for almost two years now; primarily centered on the Carolina Panthers, NFL and a little bit about Penn State football.

I am currently the lead blogger of the Carolina Panthers at Cat Crave; http://catcrave.com The host site, http://fansided.com has bloggers covering all 32 NFL teams, and other various professional sports, if anyone is curious to see or interested.

I also host my own internet sports radio program now, since about September of 2009. My co-host Ron, and I host two weekly programs at this time. Tuesday nights (Fourth and Inches) from 6-8 p.m. eastern time/US which is probably about 10 or 11 starting time in the UK?

So, if you are able to, check us out! We'll be on live tonight; if it's too late for you, our shows are archived on the showpage website for listening whenever you want, and we are also on iTunes. If you go to the iTunes store and type OneSickCat into the search, you can download your favorite episode/s into your iPod or mp3 player.

This Thursday night from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. Eastern time US, Ron and I will start our first "after hours" show, which is self-titled Blitz Radio, "An all-out blitz." We relax the typical radio rules and it's more of a show where we don't have a set format, but we might talk on any variety of topics, or one or two topics.

So give us a listen if you wish, or you can check out our archived episodes as well.

Thank you for reading and thank you in advance, if anyone decides to check out any of the links. If anyone wants to, you may also call into our shows via phone or Skype.

Pretty much everything I know about football, I've learned on my own. My father taught me some of the basic stuff to know, but I've been teaching him for years now.

While I was working, I'd just do this stuff as I had time; generally at night and on weekends. But when it's a labor of love, you make time for it. And there's no inconvenience ot hassle about it at all.

The radio programs I'd do at night and on Sundays I'll do a Panthers pregame show, though this year I think I'm changing the format to cover all the NFL in a pregame show.

Penn State is a funny story. I never took the SAT or ACT tests when I was in high school, and a friend who attends Penn State, suggested I apply to the school, as they are a top-five communications school. So I applied as a non-traditional / adult learner, which requires that you are five years removed from high school, and have working or military experience; excelled at your job or were not dishonorably discharged from the military. In all my jobs I've always worked my way to some sort of managerial authority. Based on my experience both at my job and all the articles i had written online, I received my letters of acceptance, both to the university and to the school of communications.

So while I say that I'm a student, I'm not in attendance yet. I start this fall, but I have already gone through freshman orientation and have my student picture ID. So I'm ready to go in the fall!
