Hey Everyone, my name is Michael and I have just recently acquired my first "nice" jersey. I have always had low end jerseys (I'm a poor college student). Recently my wonderful girlfriend bought me a throwback reebok on field Patriots Jersey (Welker). It looks pretty nice. I'm not sure if it's authentic or not if I post pictures could you pro collectors tell me?
I'm not sure if it's an appropriate for this forum, but I have another question. The numbers are really stiff making it pretty uncomfortable. I was told if I wash and dry it a few times it will solve this issue. However due to it being a throwback its bright red with white lettering and numbering. How do I avoid turning the letters and numbers pink? I hate how stiff it is but I definitely don't want to ruin it, whether it's authentic or not.
Thanks a lot everyone!

Edit: I'm not sure if this is pertinent information but it's the 2009 AFL 50th Anniversary jersey.

Welcome Mike,

Of course we can have a look at your photos of the jersey. You can post pictures using the [img] code tags from photbucket or similar.

If it is a genuine jersey then it should be colour fast and not run in the wash, just follow the instructions on the care tag. Repeated washing over some time may cause the twill numbers to become a bit more forgiving as the glue that holds them together degrades, but they were designed to be stiff.

I'm completely ready to be told it's a fake at this point. It will be disappointing but a lesson learned.
These are my concerns when looking at your info already posted and inspecting the jersey:
-There is a patch on the front of the jersey.
-On the tag where it says "ON FIELD" it looks like it says "ONFIELO"
-The letters and numbers have a shine to them, and are a single layer.
-After I put the jersey in the dryer on tumble(to soften the numbers) they look a bit bubbled
-The jersey is made in Vietnam, I'm not sure if 2009 is lately enough for that

I never took a good look at the tags that came on it, and now they are long gone so I have no info about those.
Thanks again, I'm sure if it's fake it is too late for me, but the jersey was bought from a local business so if need be I would at least like to save others from making the same mistake.

I'm sorry I'm about to disappoint you. It is a fake the numbers are really poor quality. On a real jersey they would have a matt finish. The patch should be on this AFL jersey but it should be higher up half on the body mesh and half on the shoulder material.

That's unfortunate, I'm more disappointed to tell my girlfriend than anything. I will go and talk to the shop that sold it to her. I will also make sure to let the community knows as well. If any of you live in WA state, the shop is between Bellingham and Lynden and called "Jersey Sports" the owners name is Ray. That's all I know for now.
I guess I will be on the search for a new jersey. Thanks a lot. I will definitely be consulting you guys in the future before I purchase.

Definitely a bummer for sure, he suckered her out of $100. She bought it a couple months ago and I drove by there after work to ask him about it today, and his business is closed. Figures as much, lesson learned for sure!
